Shut up superhero

Sometimes the bravest person in the room is the quietist.

The bold one who recognizes that the most courageous thing to do or say is nothing.

The strong one who withstands the overwhelming silence in an attempt to acknowledge all that can not be defined by words.

The self-effacing one who knows that loving another sometimes means not being the center of attention.

The one who loves truly despite the fear that true loving is the bravest thing we can do.

“…loving another sometimes means not being the center of attention.” It’s good to finally learn this and be able to practice it once in awhile. It gets easier over time, too, thank God!

And Justine, you totally kick ass, mama!

I’m so happy you’re writing this blog. I redefined brave when Frankie was little and her bio dad took off to live the rough alcoholic existence. He saw himself as a tormented poet living the “hard life.” But I saw how much showing up, day after day after day, for our daughter, was maybe less sexy but so much more kick ass than anything he ever did.

Just btw – he acknowledges that now too and we’re on good terms. 🙂
