Sibling rivalry is alive and well in our home. Blessedly, there was a pause just long enough in the incessant bickering for the little one to quietly ask her sister, “When will we be best friends again?”
I held my breath, trying to be invisible.
“We never were best friends!” the big one hurled. Ouch.
I searched for words that might help to soothe the ache growing inside the little one, fully knowing that I was not the person who could calm this wound.
After a painfully long silence, the big one stated, with authority, “We are sisters. And that means forever.”
I exhaled slowly.
“Forever?” the little one asked.
“Forever!” the big one smiled.
